Essex Muslim Centre (EMC) is a fast-growing community hub serving North Chelmsford. We provide daily prayers, Jumu’ah, children’s Qur’an classes, youth activities, educational programmes, and family support services. Our mission is to foster faith, knowledge, unity, and community wellbeing based on the Qur’an and Sunnah.
The Opportunity
EMC is seeking an Experienced Imam with solid mid-level experience to lead prayers, support teaching, deliver reminders, and contribute to community programmes. The role involves working with diverse communities including Arab, African, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and the wider Muslim population of Chelmsford.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily prayers, Jumu’ah and Islamic events with excellence.
- Deliver khutbahs, study circles, reminders, and educational sessions.
- Support and supervise children’s Qur’an learning programmes.
- Provide Islamic guidance while adhering to UK safeguarding standards.
- Support EMC youth, education, and family programmes.
- Design initiatives for Arab, African, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and wider communities.
- Assist with Ramadan, Eid, family events, and community outreach.
- Build positive relationships with families, youth, and volunteers.
- Represent EMC professionally when required.
Person Specification – Essential
- Hafiz al-Qur’an with strong memorisation and accurate recitation.
- Recognised Islamic qualification (Alimiyyah or BA Islamic Studies).
- Strong Tajweed and confident leadership in prayer.
- Good character, conduct, and communication skills.
- Experience engaging positively with youth and community members.
- Experience teaching children or adults.
- Understanding of UK safeguarding requirements.
- Must be a UK Resident. Sponsorship is not available.
Person Specification – Desirable
- Mufti qualification (advanced Islamic studies such as Iftaa).
- Additional Islamic qualifications or teaching credentials.
- Experience in community work, da’wah or outreach.
- Ability to support educational and community programmes.
